Sixth Grade Science Lab Provides Hands-On Learning
Sixth graders recently dissected preserved sheep brains during a science lab, which provided a hands-on opportunity to study the anatomical structures of a mammalian brain similar to humans. The goal of the dissection was for students to examine a brain and identify its basic structures. The students were asked to complete several scientific sketches in order to focus their attention on the specific features of the brain. Parents were encouraged to volunteer and guide students as they examined and discussed their observations. This exciting experiment allowed students to begin their exploration of brain research and learning with a powerful hands-on lab.
