Important Extended Day Notice
Jan Adams, our coordinator for Extended Day for the past 11 years is resigning from this position at the end of this school year. We are so grateful for her selfless dedication and the thorough design she developed for this program. It is a testament to her commitment to our young children, and we will continue to utilize its structure. Jan will continue to be our valued teacher in the PreS 3’s five-day program. I know you’ll join us in expressing our deep appreciation for Jan’s work.

Cheer Camp (June 10-14)
Experience the fun of cheerleading! Come learn from Holland Hall Upper School cheerleaders and cheerleading coach, Sarah Cox! Students learn basic cheerleading skills, including motions, jumps and formations, as well as cheers, chants and dance. Perform during a Holland Hall football game in the fall. Participants are grouped according to age and ability. Price includes T-shirt. Location: PS Gym. Instructors: Sarah Cox, Camryn Cox Winters and Cheerleaders
Middle School age cheerleaders will be grouped separately for most of the week working on advanced cheers, chants and stunts.
Field Hockey Camp
Don’t let the fact that you do not have a field hockey stick or have never played the game before keep you from signing up! We have sticks for kids of all ages! Try a new sport or brush up on your skills and fun for the summer! Camp dates are June 17-20 from 9-12pm! Sign up through the summer programs office!
Meet An Author Summer Programs Class
Have you ever wanted to talk to someone who made books? Have you ever wanted to share a story you wrote or a picture you made with a real author-illustrator? This summer you can meet two-time Caldecott Honor winning author and illustrator Laura Vaccaro Seeger. She is the author of such books as Green, First the Egg and the Dog and Bear series. Mrs. Turner and Mr. Christian will be teaching a Meet the Author class as a part of the Holland Hall Summer Programs. In this class, students will work on their own ideas for stories and illustrations similar to the work of Mrs. Seeger. The last day of the class, students will have a live virtual visit with the author. Students will have a chance to listen to the author speak about her career, ask questions and share their own work with her.

Commencement Tickets - TICKETS ARE NEEDED – PLEASE DONATE YOUR EXTRA TICKETS ASAP!!!
Please continue to pick up Commencement tickets from Debra Silkman in the reception area of the US. If you have extra tickets that you do not plan to use, please donate those as soon as you can so they can be re-distributed by Kami Barton prior to Commencement.
Final Exam Information
*Dress regulations are in effect during the entire examination period. When students are on campus, they must be in uniform.
*Due to possible testing at the north end of the library, the south end will be open for independent, quiet study only.
*Students will be expected to remain quiet at all times while in the library during the three days of exams. *Students need to be in attendance only for their scheduled exams and during the announcements prior to each exam.
*Announcements will begin 15 minutes before the scheduled exam time.
*The US Refectory will be closed during final exams. Lunch may be purchased each day in the MS Refectory with a debit card. Students have the school’s permission to leave campus for lunch. Parents are encouraged to discuss lunch arrangements with their son or daughter.
*Beginning at 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday, May 22rd, a hot breakfast will be served in the Upper School Commons.
*Students who have conflicts with the exam schedule below should contact their teachers as soon as possible.

English Prep Courses
Every summer, the US English department offers a variety of reading and writing intensive prep courses for each grade. The purposes of the classes include helping students navigate their assigned summer reading, strengthen their writing skills, and develop a strong academic foundation for the next curricular level. There are two types of classes: literature intensive (which focuses primarily on the summer reading assignments) and writing intensive (which focuses primarily on writing about literature). These classes are available for rising freshmen, sophomores, and juniors. Each class runs for two weeks, meeting Monday – Thursday for 2 hours a day in room 214. There are sessions in June, July, and August. The cost is $250. Class size is limited so enroll your child soon. Summer Reading Books Available from MBS
The MBS Virtual Bookstore will open Monday, May 13th for summer reading purchases. Students in 9th and 10th grade English, American Studies, and some senior elective courses have requirements for summer reading. To access the reading assignments for the classes, click on the summer reading links by going to the Chapman Library page on the Holland Hall website. Also, as a reminder, course enrollment confirmations for senior electives will not be available until the first week of July.
Driver’s License Permit
Any student who plans to obtain a driver’s license permit during the summer break will need to make sure he or she has the required paperwork from the school PRIOR to June 14th. Students who need the Document of School Enrollment/Document of Reading Proficiency may obtain one from Ms. Schale.

Holland Hall will offer the MBS Online Book Buyback between May 17th and June 21st. Follow the path on the main page of the HH website: “Top Destinations”>”Bookstore”> “Sell My Books”. Login to MBS, create a quote, and print a FREE shipping label so you can return the books at no cost to you. TIP: The earlier you create your quote offers you the best chance for MBS to buy back your books! For more information, see our website during the month of May.
Library Materials Due
The deadline for turning in library materials was last Wed., May 15th. Students who have an unresolved library account at the end of final exams (May 24th) will not receive a final report card until the account is clear.
TO JUNIOR PARENTS:
It is time to register for College Boot Camp. All juniors received an e-mail asking them to choose either the AM or PM session and register for August Boot Camp. We will meet on August 12, 13, 14, and 16. There are no sessions on Thursday, August 15. The morning session meets from 9:30 – 11:30 am and the afternoon session meets 1:00 – 3:00 pm. THIS SUNDAY – MAY 19! 2013-2014 Physical Exams
Physicals exams for the 2013-2014 school year for grades 6-12 are scheduled for Sunday, May 19 at 3 p.m. in the Upper School Commons.
Physical exam forms are required for all new students and returning students in Kindergarten, grade 4, and grades 6-12. Free physical exams through the school are only available to grades 6-12. The form can be downloaded, filled out by a physician, and turned in to Linda Christensen, located in the Middle School.

Also, all 6-12 grade students attending the free Holland Hall physical on May 19, must present a completed and signed Medical History form in order to obtain a physical. Students who choose not to attend the Holland Hall physical must have the Medical History and Physical form completed by their physician.
