Retro Moments

By Annie Brady

What does the future hold?  That’s the question time travelers can answer, and fortunately for the Holland Hall community, anyone can be a time traveler at the April 16, Holland Hall Auction, Back to the Future! Let’s take a peek into what your future might hold. It looks pretty good.

Someone will be relaxing with nine friends in a magnificent house just above the Pacific Ocean, where they will be pampered by a full-time staff of five.  Perfect drinks will appear just by thinking of one, and exotic dishes will be prepared any time of day.  Five days of basking in the sun by pools and watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean.

Then there is that lucky person who will be pro golfer Bo Van Pelt’s caddy for a day.   Walking the perfect fairways of a championship course in Texas, just you, Bo and thousands of golf fans, soaking up the great game of golf.  Eat lunch with the other caddys and compare notes.

At the Southern Hills men’s grill there is a table of 10 all listening intently as someone in the middle of the group is explaining the virtues of a certain zone defense.  That someone isn’t just anyone, it’s Hall of Fame basketball coach Eddie Sutton. But it’s not all serious business, there is a lot of laughter too because there is a great history and good stories to tell.

Lights, camera, action! Two future stars, or maybe just fans join Tulsa Native Alfre Woodard for a day of filming on the set of her latest television series, set in New Orleans.  Over lunch they visit with Ms. Woodard about her memories of Tulsa, and her favorite part of being an actress.   Ms. Woodard asks her guests if they’ve ever considered acting?  This could be the start of something that dreams are made of.

Legendary pie maker, Kay Holt, also known as extraordinary Holland Hall second grade teacher, creates a vision of yummy-ness — a praline pie.  Rich, creamy and delicious, just like the one mama used to make, but better (don’t tell mama).  Although bidding goes high, one certain person is determined to leave with a slice of childhood.  And so they do.

Adventuresome traveler with big dreams soaks in the sights of Orca Island.  Luxury accommodations and incredible scenery make for a getaway like no other. Killer whales spotted in the distance appear as if by command.

Ten folks gather around a table, sharing great wines, delicious foods and conversation in a magical place called Kuskinook.  Tucked away by a stream on a wooded lot with a warm fire blazing, it’s perfect for a night of friendship. It’s not far by miles, but being there takes you away.
