Dear Holland Hall community,

Thank you, once again, for your patience and flexibility with our opening dates. Undoubtedly, many of you have had to change plans and make additional accommodations for childcare, etc. until we get to the first days of school. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you deeply for your understanding.

There have been some questions about whether or not the delay is tied to the COVID 19 numbers in Tulsa. The answer is no, not directly.

We built the flexible schedule this year to accommodate this pandemic. And we needed some additional time at the beginning of the year to plan. Although administrators have been on campus all summer ordering and installing At Home learning technology, Plexiglas, filters and other important supplies, those things weren’t available to teachers until now.

We are confident that we can provide a robust At Home learning model for students who need or choose to quarantine at home, but our teachers need time to work with the new technology and make sure it works in their classrooms and outside, where many want to hold classes.

The same is true for our safety protocols. While the school can create best practices, the teachers need time to refine them to work in their own classrooms.

We have heard many questions about the recent comments by Tulsa Health Department Executive Director Bruce Dart about his preference for schools to start virtually. We had the same questions as we’ve worked hand-in-hand with the Health Department throughout the summer.

Dr. Dart shared with us that his recent comments were made with larger public districts — without space to implement mitigation strategies — in mind. We were one of the first organizations to submit our reopening plan, which has been reviewed and approved by the Tulsa Health Department. Dr. Dart said that we can share with our community that Holland Hall is compliant with all recommended strategies to keep students safe. You can read his press release here.

The opportunity to see our students again is so enlivening, even in this environment. Thank you for trusting in Holland Hall.

The start dates are firm pending any national, state or city mandates, so we look forward to seeing your child on August 25 (EPK-5th grades) or Sept. 1 (6th-12 grades).

Please be in touch with questions. Go Dutch!
