Providing learning experiences outside of the classroom is an integral element of the Middle School program. These activities present additional opportunities for our students to develop their team-building and critical thinking skills in the context of relevant life experiences.
The purposes of the Advisory program in the Middle School are create a sense of community and belonging for each student and promote a fun, safe, student-centered environment focused on relationships, goal setting, leadership, growth, and character. Advisory meets several times each cycle and various activities are planned during these times to achieve the goals of the program. Every other week, the entire Middle School gathers for Assembly. Every Monday, the entire Middle School begins the week in Chapel services. Advisory groups are small groups of 12-17 students grouped by grade level. Advisors work closely with advisees and families to promote self-awareness, academic progress, and solid communication between home and school.

School-Out-Of-Doors (SOOD) provides opportunities for students to work, learn, and engage in multiple learning and team-building activities outdoors! For students in Grades 6-8, this is an overnight experience at an Oklahoma campsite. Students in Grade 5 spend one full day at an Oklahoma campsite. Students in Grade 4 spend the majority of one school day on the Holland Hall campus. In addition to bonding time for students and faculty, SOOD allows for opportunities to learn in nature and challenge individual perspectives and personal skills.
Middle School Play
Since before Holland Hall moved to its present 81st Street location, there have been theatrical productions produced in the Middle School. The Middle School began presenting plays in 1977 with a production of Our Town. Over the years Middle School students and faculty have performed Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, Oliver, The Music Man, Bye Bye Birdie, A Midsummer’s Night Dream, Seussical, Much Ado About Nothing, Oklahoma!, The Pirates of Penzance, The Illiad, The Odyssey, and All of Greek Mythology in 99 Minutes or Less, Radio Kids, and Alice in Wonderland.
Students who participate in the Middle School plays have a chance to bond with other kids while working hard toward an exciting end. The finished product is always a source of pride for our community. Giving students the chance to work hard at something that requires creativity, attention to detail and ensemble skills is part of what makes attending Holland Hall Middle School such a rich and rewarding experience.
