April 25 – May 1 (All School)
Posted on: Apr 24, 2020
“You are enough. You are doing enough. We encourage you to focus on creating positive memories and fostering relationships during this time.” — Holland Hall counselors Ryan Myers and Cassie Gray.
In case you missed it, Holland Hall Head of School JP Culley announced that May 15 would be the last day of school, and that remote learning would continue until then.
Now for some announcements …
From the Upper School …
The Awards Assembly
The Upper School Awards Assembly will be livestreamed from campus at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 29. The Cum Laude Induction will be included this year. If you cannot make the 7 p.m. livestream, no worries! We will send out a link to the event after the fact so that you can watch it.
Last day for Seniors and Senior College T-Shirt Day
The last day of school for seniors will be on Friday, May 1, unless a senior is enrolled in AP classes. Seniors enrolled in AP classes are expected to attend class until the AP exam (this is the same policy we had during senior internships).
On Friday, May 1, we will have College T-shirt day for seniors. This will involve a drive-through parade on campus for seniors and their families, with individual photos of seniors in their college t-shirts and other goodies. Seniors, check your emails and make sure to fill out the survey on PSL The Commons, Class of 2020!
Seniors and their families will do a drive-through diploma pick-up with a lot more fun appropriately socially distanced activities. Check your email for more!
June 5: Powderpuff Football and the Senior Sunset on campus (time TBA)
June 6: Dutch Weekend formal dance at the IDL Ballroom downtown from 8 p.m. – 11 p.m.
What if the rules of social distancing prevent us from being able to have it on this weekend? We will reschedule it again for later in the summer.
There will be a formal commencement ceremony. It’s scheduled for July 9 at 6:30 p.m. on Holland Hall Campus, with the location dependent on social distancing requirements.
What if the restrictions are so strict that we cannot have commencement on this date? We will reschedule it for later.
From the Middle School …
8th grade families: Please mark your calendars for Thursday, May 14th from 5-6 pm to celebrate the Class of 2024 “parade style” on campus! More details to come.
From the Primary School …
Watch for information in the next 7-10 days about opportunities to pick up remaining student supplies/papers/materials…as well as returning library books and other materials to the school!
Great Family Conversation Starters (Part XIV)
1) What will be your best memory from school this year? Why?
2) Name your favorite character in a book … and tell why you like them so much.
New Episode of Digging Books!

If you did not buy a book, please watch in future Dutch Weekly for information on how to purchase. Please do not contact the school at this time regarding buying one of the extras.
Yearbooks are scheduled to arrive soon. Please watch for distribution instructions from your branch heads.
Thanks to all for your support of the yearbook staff.
Senior Portfolio Exhibit
Please take the time to enjoy this new virtual art show for our graduating seniors. Most of them have worked hard for four years to develop as visual artists, and this is their final performance.
The Arts Department put together the exhibit, which features images of the seniors’ work. Click on the link below to view the full show or on the individual.
The 2020 Holland Haul
Formerly known as the Online Auction, items such as Upper School reserved student-parking spots, naming the Middle School Drive, and reserved commencement seats are available for a “buy-it-now” price by clicking on the link below. Sales close on May 15. This is the last big fundraiser of the year, so if you’re thinking about ways to help the school, please take a look and see if there is something your family would enjoy.
Support our HH community …
As you go about making sense of your temporary “new normal,” think about some of those families in our HH community with small businesses. Getting take-out? How about supporting a restaurant with a community tie? Need a new doctor or your doctor isn’t taking appointments? We have some wonderful physicians in our community. Visit this link to find some businesses who would love your support right now, and if you own a business, let us know about it!
