July 25 – 31 (All School)

Posted on: Jul 24, 2020

Remember, school starts August 13!

We’re so close to the new school year that we wanted to send a special summer edition of Dutch Weekly to help you in your back-to-school preparations.

Get all of your back-to-school and safety questions answered!

The school has set a series of virtual town halls for parents with Head of School JP Culley, Nurse Linda Christensen, the Branch Heads, and others.

Time will be devoted to opening-of-school preparations, Holland Hall’s Virtual Option, and other commonly asked questions.  Also, please submit additional questions to news@hollandhall.org.  We’ll address as many as possible during the time we have together.

Be watching for the links to a Google Meet for:

Upper School families at 4 p.m. Wednesday, July 29
Primary School families at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 29
Middle School families at 4 p.m. Thursday, July 30

Virtual learning survey

If you think you may utilize the virtual learning option, please fill out the following survey by July 31.

Uniforms and Dutch gear …

Preorder: You can shop from a few select styles online for pickup in the Dutch Zone in early August. Orders are due by 1 p.m. Monday, July 27. Click here to shop.

Shop in person: New families can come shop in the Dutch Zone — in the Tandy Dining and Wellness Center on campus — from 8-10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6.

Everyone can shop on from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 12, and Thursday, Aug. 13; and from noon-4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 14.

Dutch Exchange: We need gently used uniforms or Dutch gear for our new Dutch Exchange.

The Dutch Exchange is an opportunity for families to recycle their outgrown uniforms and Dutch gear and to shop for uniforms and Dutch spirit wear at no cost. Items are available for students in all branches and employees when the Exchange is open. The Exchange accepts shirts, skirts, shorts, pants, sweatshirts, sweaters, ties, and Dutch gear.

Gently used, stain-free items on hangers can be dropped off in front of the Tandy on Thursday, July 30th from 8-10 a.m. Stay tuned for details about when families may come and shop (for free!) at the Dutch Exchange.

Contact Gayle Taylor with any questions about the Dutch Exchange at wanmbr1mom@cox.net.

Volunteers needed

We know many parents want to be on campus, and we want that too! Although there will be limited volunteer opportunities this year, we wanted to let you know about an important one. Students still need Dutch gear, so we want to have the Dutch Zone open. This is a great opportunity to serve the school, meet other parents and see students.

The Dutch Zone, located in the Tandy building, is a volunteer-staffed spirit store that serves the entire Holland Hall community with Dutch clothing that can be worn on Dutch Days (Fridays) as well as other Dutch merchandise like hoodies and sweatshirts that are uniform friendly.

The goal is to be open weekly on Fridays from 8-10 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. We need two volunteers per shift. Please note that the store will not be open if we do not have volunteers.

And we need immediate volunteers for some Back to School shopping opportunities.

Please sign up here and note the two tabs (one for monthly Friday shifts and one for Back to School dates).

The Dutch Zone can safely accommodate 2 volunteers and a maximum of 3 shoppers in the store at this time. Shoppers may have to wait their turn to enter the store. We request you space yourselves 6 feet apart while you wait (and wear a mask per the visitor policy).

Mask policy

Please remember that all visitors, employees and students on campus must be wearing a mask while on campus.

New stop light!

As you come on campus, you may see a lot of construction on 81st Street. The main entrance is getting a traffic light.

It’s set to be installed the week of August 17th, although that is subject to change. So allow yourself a few extra minutes to get to school as that’s happening.

3rd Grade Bridge Crossing for returning Holland Hall families

Although the 2019-20 school year ended abruptly, we still want to celebrate last year’s Holland Hall third-graders who marked a big milestone — moving into Middle School!

We will have the annual Bridge Crossing ceremony at 9 a.m. August 12. Families should gather on the Middle School side of the bridge.  Students should meet their classroom teachers near the PS gym.

A few things to note about the celebration:

  • Students should wear their new Middle School uniform or their Primary School uniform
  • Families are allowed to bring 4 guests per child
  • There will not be chairs provided, so bring them if you’d like
  • Everyone — including students — must wear a mask
  • Please try to keep 6 feet of separation between families
  • Anyone showing COVID 19 symptoms should not come to the ceremony

Parents, bring your cameras and feel free to take photos of your student crossing the bridge. After your child crosses, please step to the side so that other families may also take photos.

More back-t0-school info

Want to know who your child’s teacher is? Want to know where the schedules will be when they’re loaded? Want to know which email address and phone number we’ll use to reach you? It’s all in the Parent Portal!

If you haven’t already set up your account in the Parent Portal,  find the FAMILY tab in this link.

You also should have received an email this week with a letter from Head of School J.P. Culley, a letter from your branch head, and important information about books, drop-off, lunch and more. All of that information can be found at hollandhall.org/parents/info
