Auditions for the MS Production of “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon”
Calling 6th-8th Graders! Here is your opportunity to be onstage in this year’s Middle School production! “The Brothers Grimm Spectaculathon” auditions will be held Monday, September 23 starting at 3:45 pm in the MS Black Box. If you are interested in seeing the audition sides in advance, please visit Mrs. Scarberry’s office.
Book Fair Volunteer Drive
We need volunteers for the 60th Anniversary of the Holland Hall Book Fair! We are holding a Volunteer Drive on September 16-20 and will have the BOOK ROOM OPEN ALL WEEK during school hours for you to stop by anytime! Regular monthly sorting events are also held every Wednesday and every other Tuesday. Visit the Book Fair website for more information about the event and to sign up. Important Athletics Announcement
For many years, all 7th and 8th students were required to select a sport, with competitive and non competitive offerings available. Competitive teams required students to be on campus later than the regular school day and commitment to competitions in late afternoons and evenings. For this reason, we also allowed students to request that an alternative sports commitment outside of school to meet the athletic requirement. Beginning this school year, we added a Physical Education class for 7th and 8th grades. This class continues the program that begins in 4th grade and focuses on Oklahoma State PASS Standards for Physical Education. In this course, our goal is that students have fun while participating in games, being active in a fitness program, and staying engaged with their peers. We believe that all students will benefit from this fundamental course being part of the school day if they are not part of an athletic team.
With this new addition of Physical Education to our program, beginning in the 2020-2021 school year, all 7th and 8th students will be enrolled in Physical Education and will be dismissed at 3:10, the end of the regular school day for middle school. Any student who desires to be on a competitive team will be able to sign up for a competitive team in the place of PE. Several sports require a tryout due to number of participants, space and coaching availability. If you participate on a competitive team, that will fulfill the physical education credit. Athletic team practices will conclude at 3:30pm daily, with most competitions being in the evenings.

Middle School Attendance
We want to be sure you are aware of the Attendance Policy per the Parent/Student Handbook as well as the need for a Planned Absence Form to be completed by students if they know they will be out of school.
Holland Hall deems attendance and punctuality for all school commitments as important. Regular attendance is a critical component in the educational experience of every student at Holland Hall. In order to fully master concepts and skills covered throughout the year, and to receive full credit for an academic year, students need to be present and on time for the vast majority (90%) of class time.
Students who accumulate more than 8 absences per semester may be denied credit for that course. In addition, zeros will/may be given for all assignments, quizzes and tests. When a student nears this limit, an attendance review with the student, parents, student’s advisor, Dean of Students, and/or Branch Head will be convened. We recognize that there could be extenuating circumstances resulting in an exception. These must be approved by the Branch Head.
Unexcused and Excused Absences
Excused absences will not count toward the 8 day limit of absences. These include school sponsored activities, religious holidays, family emergencies, funerals, weddings of close family members, honorary situations (to receive an award, to perform at a special event), approved academic and service events, and approved sports events for those in alternative sports.
All other absences, unless deemed by the Branch Head to be an extenuating circumstance, will be counted as unexcused.
Students in Middle and Upper Schools need to communicate with child’s advisor and Branch Assistant the dates of these planned absences by completing a Planned Absence form found on the Parents page of the HH Website.
Students are required to communicate with each teacher to find out what work will need to be completed and turned in upon return, the child’s advisor will provide a form on which to track all make- up work and due dates. It is expected that students return to school with all work completed and any missed assessment scheduled in a timely manner.

Volunteers are always needed, numerous opportunities are available each month, and your time earns points for your student’s grade! Middle School Basketball Try-outs
Tryouts for basketball this year will take place on the following dates:
7th Boys Basketball

8th Boys Basketball
Wednesday, October 9, 2:30-4pm (MS gym)
Friday, October 11, 2:30-4pm (US gym)
Girls Basketball (7th and 8th grade)
Monday, October 21, 2:30-3:30pm (MS Gym)
Tuesday, October 22, 2:30-3:30pm (MS Gym)
Players must attend both tryout dates, unless receiving prior approval.
We ask that parents do not attend tryouts, as we are trying to create an environment that is equal for everyone involved in the process. By not allowing outside spectators, the students are able to compete without any added pressure of parents watching and coaches are able to evaluate without any outside biases.

Tryouts will be taking place during the athletic period and all fall coaches are aware that any athlete trying out for basketball will be missing sports that day.
Basketball practices will begin on Monday, October 28 and the first game is Monday, November 11.
The 7th and 8th grade will have one competitive basketball team per grade, per gender. There will be 12 players selected per team; ten players will suit up each game and an additional two players will have the option of being a practice player for the year. The purpose of the practice player role is to allow a player to continue to develop one’s basketball skill and participate in each practice. All players who do not make the team(s) will have their choice of joining Wrestling, APT (athletic performance training), Dance, or Physical Education.
The Holland Hall basketball teams participate in the Pinnacle Conference and adhere to all OSSAA guidelines.

MS Lunchroom Volunteers Needed
