ARTS

Holland Hall Upper School Theatre Presents
William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream

“The course of true love never did run smooth.”

A feuding fairy King and Queen of the forest cross paths with four runaway lovers and a troupe of actors trying to rehearse a play. As their dispute grows, the magical royal couple meddle with mortal lives leading to love triangles, mistaken identities and transformations… with hilarious, but dark consequences.

Join us for an evening under the stars as the Upper School Theatre presents Shakespeare’s most famous romantic comedy on the Holland Hall Chapman Green!

Thursday, September 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Saturday, September 26 at 6:30 p.m.

This show is FREE of charge and for all ages. Please bring a lawn chair/ blanket for a picnic style, “Shakespeare in the Park” performance. Please maintain social distance guidelines.

 


PARENT MEETING

Primary School Parents’ Association Meeting

The first Parents’ Association meeting will be held through Google Meet on Wednesday, October 7. To allow you time to drop off and get back home for our virtual meeting, the start time will be 9:30 a.m. (Remember that Wednesdays have a late start.) Look for an email from your grade coordinator next week with more details on how to submit any questions you may have.

CAMPUS HEALTH

Transparency and COVID-19

Holland Hall is committed to transparency and will update a spreadsheet on the school’s website daily with any positive cases on campus. The numbers — if there are any — will be reported by branch (Upper School/WAC; Middle School/Tandy; Primary School). Nurse Linda Christensen is responsible for contact tracing this year and will inform anyone with direct exposure personally.

If your child is absent

Please let your branch assistant know why your child is absent when calling in the morning.

Daily Health Forms

Parents, please get into the habit of completing the daily health form for your children before arriving on campus. You’ll need to fill it out for each child after you take his or her temperature in the morning.

For those that watch the local news, Channel 2 will be here on Friday broadcasting their newscast at 5 and 6 p.m. and if you are still awake, FOX 23 will be here for their Friday night football highlights from 11-11:30 p.m. from Hardesty Field.

Students must attend both tryout dates, unless receiving prior approval.

DutchZone Open for the Football Game

The Dutch Zone will be open on Friday night for the Holland Hall vs. Metro Christian game from 6:30-7 p.m. and at halftime.

School pictures were taken Sept. 14 and 15, and images should be available soon for ordering. If you have questions about setting up an account or placing an order, please click here.

Volunteers Needed

The Admission Team is seeking parent volunteers for various virtual events, such as open house events and parent panels, to visit with prospective families and help answer their questions. Please complete the online volunteer form by Monday, October 12 to let us know you are available and interested! Once we receive all volunteer information, we will then schedule a virtual kick-off meeting. We hope you will consider partnering with us!

 

Extended Day

If your family intends to utilize Before- or After-School Care, please communicate that in an email to your child’s teacher and cc Debbie Almohandis, dalmohandis@hollandhall.org, with your detailed needs. If it’s a regular occurrence, please let them know which days you’ll be using it. If you need drop-in services, please communicate that to your child’s teacher and cc Debbie Almohandis by email the day you need it.

This procedure allows us to have a record from you, so teachers know when to drop your child off to the Extended Day staff.

PRIMARY SCHOOL EPK PARENTS: If you want to use the Before-Care services, the normal EPK curbside drop-off time is 7:50-8:10 a.m. This is when an Extended Day Program (EDP) staff member will come to your car, take your child’s temperature from the passenger window, and walk him or her in.
If you arrive after 8:10, there is a new procedure between 8:10 and 8:40 a.m. Please park in the EDP circle drive on the far east side of the building and walk your child to the door. Ring the buzzer and an EDP staff member will come to the door to take your child’s temperature.
Please remain with your child at the door until he or she is approved to enter. We believe this will help streamline drop-off in the mornings and we appreciate your help!

Ordering Box Lunches

Don’t forget that Flik is serving box lunches to students on campus this year.

You can now start ordering 3 serving days out.

The deadline to order is Tuesday for next week’s lunches.

UPPER SCHOOL NEWS

Reminder

We are asking that food not be delivered to US students this year. Students should either bring their lunch or order it through Flik. If a student forgets a lunch, the Deans and the Head of Upper School have some heavy snacks to tide them over. If parents need to drop off non-perishable items that a student needs, we will have a large tub in front of the US building starting Wednesday, September 9. Please place items in the tub with your child’s name clearly marked on them and then text or email your child to let him/her know to pick the item up out of the tub. Thanks!

 


MIDDLE SCHOOL NEWS

6th, 7th and 8th grade students are required to have their ID on every day. Thank you for giving your student a reminder.

 


 

PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWS

PS TO MS Student Transfer

Many families with students in the Primary and Middle schools have used our “bus and shuttle” service, which, by the way, has nothing to do with either a bus or a shuttle.

This year, instead of walking Primary School students to the Middle School for a one-stop pickup for families, the Primary School will keep younger siblings in the Primary School. So parents should pick up their Middle School students first, then come to the Primary School, where students will be waiting at the 2nd grade porch. This should relieve some of the traffic congestion we’ve seen on campus.

If you have students in both branches, please let Vanessa Jones, vjones@hollandhall.org, know that the Primary School should keep your child for the later pickup.

 

Reminders

  • Please make sure your child’s mask fits. Several students are wearing adult-size masks and they are too big. If your child wears a gaiter, please ensure that it is double-thickness or fold it to make it two layers.
  • Please have your child mask up before exiting the car in the morning. It is helpful if your starts putting on his or her mask while you are waiting in the line before you get to the dismissal area.
  • Drop off for third graders at the penguin does not start until 7:50.
  • For those students currently enrolled in the At Home program, please communicate if you are returning to school or remaining in the At Home program for the next two weeks.

 

PS Traffic Update

Please remember that the inside far-right lane of the Primary School drive is for third-grade families doing pick-up and drop-off at the Penguin.

Drop-off:

3rd grade (7:40-8:10 a.m.): Families, please use the right lane (green diamond) and students will be dropped off at the Penguin. Security will be at the Penguin crosswalk to direct traffic.

K-2nd grade (7:50-8:10 a.m.): Use the middle lane and turn right into the loop when directed

Afternoon Pickup:

3rd Grade (3 p.m.): Pick up at Penguin inside far right lane.

1st/2nd Grade (3 p.m.) Middle lane (red square)

    • 1st Grade parents enter into middle lane until crosswalk by the penguin. Then turn right into the PS loop then stay in right lane and pick up students on 2nd Grade Porch
    • 2nd Grade parents enter into middle lane until crosswalk by the penguin. Then turn right into left lane of the PS loop and proceed until right before flagpole crosswalk where a teacher will merge you into the right lane for pickup.

DO NOT BLOCK BOTH LANES

Kindergarten. (3 p.m.): Parents enter into outside left lane (blue circle) and proceed to Vanessa Jones, who will be directing cars into EPK loop

PS Masks

Everyone should bring two (2) masks to school each day. Students need a backup mask in the event of a mask breaking, becoming wet, or being unusable. Please make sure your child’s mask fits correctly and is sized for his or her face. Please have your child wearing their masks before they exit the the vehicle in the morning.

 

Forget Something? Don’t Panic

Academic buildings are closed to visitors for the 2020-21 school year. If your child forgets homework, books, lunches or anything else, there are bins in front of each branch. Please label your item with your child’s name.

In the Primary and Middle schools, the box will be checked mid-morning and mid-afternoon.

 


MISC

Changes to the Student Directory and HH App

You may have noticed a change to the directory on the Holland Hall app. A technology issue meant the directory wasn’t up-to-date. You’ll now find a link to your Parent Portal when you click “directory” on the app. Use your PCR Parent Portal login at the prompt, and follow links to the portal. Or log in from a computer or smartphone browser by going to go.hollandhall.org/parentportal.

 

Late Start Wednesday

Every Wednesday, the Primary and Middle Schools have a 9 a.m. late start. Upper School Morning Meeting starts at 8:45 a.m.

  • In the Primary School, students may arrive at 7:50 a.m., if needed, and go to their classrooms. PreK and EPK students should be dropped off at Before-School Care, as always.
  • In the Middle School, the building opens at 8:45 a.m. Before-School Care remains available at 7 a.m. in the Tandy for students who arrive early. Holland Hall will provide complimentary Before School Care from 7:45-8:45 a.m.  At drop-off each morning, all students will walk through our Thermal Imaging Scanners.
  • In the Upper School, students may arrive early, as in years past.  They are asked to sit in a socially distanced manner in the Commons until 8:30 a.m.

2020 Yearbooks

A limited number of 2020 yearbooks will be for sale in the Dutch Zone soon. If you have questions about a 2020 order, please email Shirley Sokolosky, ssokolosky@hollandhall.org.

2021 books go on sale Oct. 1, 2020. Order information will be provided in late September.

Registering Your Car with Security

The safety of our students, faculty and staff is of the utmost priority at Holland Hall. Beginning this year, we will require Vehicle ID stickers for all HH families.  These stickers must be visible on the front lower drivers side windshield. At this time every HH family will be issued two stickers. If additional stickers are needed for an extended family member or caretaker that frequents the campus during school hours, please contact Campus Safety for more information at 918-879-4717. All vehicles not displaying an ID sticker during school hours — excluding drop-off or pick-up — will be stopped by Campus Safety.

Vehicle ID Stickers can be obtained from the receptionist in the A.R. and Marylouise Tandy Dining and Wellness Center lobby or from any Campus Safety Officer.
