Dress code clarifications for 2025-26

The dress code in each branch has been reviewed and clarified for the 2025-26 school year in an effort to make things simpler and more consistent for families.

What’s new?

Tommy Hilfiger Uniforms is now an approved uniform vendor, and the online store carries Holland Hall skirts, shirts, pants, outerwear and more. Tommy Hilfiger joins established vendors C&J Uniforms, 7923 E. 51st St., and Lands’ End.

Biggest Changes: Outerwear and Dutch Day Attire

In general, we’ve streamlined across branches. Here is what applies to everyone:

  • No hoodies on regular school days.
  • Outerwear (sweatshirts, sweaters or jackets) in the buildings must be a quarter-zip, a full-zip, or a crewneck.
  • Outerwear must be solid-colored — that means no stripes, no patterns, no brand logos (except for Adidas).
  • Approved colors for outerwear: Navy, Black and Heathered Gray. (Please note the color red varies widely, so it is not an approved color.)
  • Winter coats, jackets, rain gear, etc., do not need a Holland Hall logo, but should be taken off when entering the building.
  • Dutch Day outerwear: Students may wear any hoodies, jackets or sweatshirts purchased from the Dutch Zone, Athletics or through a school-sponsored club or activity.
  • Spiritwear from any vendor other than Holland Hall, C&J, Tommy Hilfiger Uniforms or Lands’ End may not be worn.

Primary and Middle School Highlights

  • Regular school day outerwear must be a plain solid color — with no brand logos — and the approved Holland Hall H-mark logo in black, red, gray, or white on the left-hand side.
  • Dutch Days:
    • Students may wear any Holland Hall spirit shirts or outerwear — including hoodies — on Dutch Days. But they must be purchased or obtained through Holland Hall.
    • Only uniform bottoms are permitted.

Upper School Highlights

  • On regular school day outerwear, students have more freedom in the Upper School. They may wear Holland Hall sweatshirts and jackets with writing on the front or back that are purchased or obtained through the school — Dutch Zone, Athletics, Clubs or other school groups. But they must be a solid color with no visible brand logo (except Adidas).
  • Ink or embroidery colors are limited to black, white, gray, Holland Hall blue, or red.
  • Upper School students may also wear white outerwear.
  • Upper School students may wear BLUE jeans or uniform bottoms on Dutch Days.
  • All Athletic Dutch Packages should have at least one outerwear option that is uniform-approved.

Administrators and deans in all three school branches worked together on the current uniform guidelines with input from the Parents Association to ensure that the dress code would be easy to follow and would leave no ambiguity for families as to what is and isn’t allowed.
