Dress code clarifications for 2025-26
The dress code in each branch has been reviewed and clarified for the 2025-26 school year in an effort to make things simpler and more consistent for families.
What’s new?
Tommy Hilfiger Uniforms is now an approved uniform vendor, and the online store carries Holland Hall skirts, shirts, pants, outerwear and more. Tommy Hilfiger joins established vendors C&J Uniforms, 7923 E. 51st St., and Lands’ End.
Biggest Changes: Outerwear and Dutch Day Attire
In general, we’ve streamlined across branches. Here is what applies to everyone:
- No hoodies on regular school days.
- Outerwear (sweatshirts, sweaters or jackets) in the buildings must be a quarter-zip, a full-zip, or a crewneck.
- Outerwear must be solid-colored — that means no stripes, no patterns, no brand logos (except for Adidas).
- Approved colors for outerwear: Navy, Black and Heathered Gray. (Please note the color red varies widely, so it is not an approved color.)
- Winter coats, jackets, rain gear, etc., do not need a Holland Hall logo, but should be taken off when entering the building.
- Dutch Day outerwear: Students may wear any hoodies, jackets or sweatshirts purchased from the Dutch Zone, Athletics or through a school-sponsored club or activity.
- Spiritwear from any vendor other than Holland Hall, C&J, Tommy Hilfiger Uniforms or Lands’ End may not be worn.
Primary and Middle School Highlights
- Regular school day outerwear must be a plain solid color — with no brand logos — and the approved Holland Hall H-mark logo in black, red, gray, or white on the left-hand side.
- Dutch Days:
- Students may wear any Holland Hall spirit shirts or outerwear — including hoodies — on Dutch Days. But they must be purchased or obtained through Holland Hall.
- Only uniform bottoms are permitted.
Upper School Highlights
- On regular school day outerwear, students have more freedom in the Upper School. They may wear Holland Hall sweatshirts and jackets with writing on the front or back that are purchased or obtained through the school — Dutch Zone, Athletics, Clubs or other school groups. But they must be a solid color with no visible brand logo (except Adidas).
- Ink or embroidery colors are limited to black, white, gray, Holland Hall blue, or red.
- Upper School students may also wear white outerwear.
- Upper School students may wear BLUE jeans or uniform bottoms on Dutch Days.
- All Athletic Dutch Packages should have at least one outerwear option that is uniform-approved.
Administrators and deans in all three school branches worked together on the current uniform guidelines with input from the Parents Association to ensure that the dress code would be easy to follow and would leave no ambiguity for families as to what is and isn’t allowed.
With that in mind, a few Holland Hall students helped create this video …

3rd to 4th Grade Parent Open House is May 6
WHAT: Fourth Grade Parent Open House
WHEN: 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 6. Presentation begins at 5:45 p.m. in the library
WHO: This evening is for parents only
We are hosting a parent Open House for incoming 4th-grade parents beginning at 5 p.m., Tuesday, May 6. This time will be for you to meet the teachers, visit classrooms, and walk around the middle school. At 5:45 p.m., we will have a presentation in the Middle School Library. You will meet deans, counselors, and learning support folks as we all share a bit about what you can expect in the next phase of your child's educational path.
As you may already know, the structure of a typical school day is quite different in middle school. Instead of being assigned to one teacher and staying with that teacher for the majority of the day, each fourth-grader will be assigned to a homeroom/Advisory*. During the school day, the students will rotate between classes with their homeroom group.
Middle School Advisory Placement Policy
Our goal is to create balanced, inclusive, and supportive advisory groups where every student can thrive. The placement process involves careful consideration of various factors, including academic diversity, social-emotional well-being, and group dynamics. To ensure fairness and equal consideration for all students, we will not be taking or honoring specific requests for teachers or classmates. This policy allows our faculty to thoughtfully create environments that support each student’s growth and foster a positive learning community. Thank you for trusting us to make decisions with the best interests of your child and the entire school community in mind.
In 4th grade, students have their own iPads and emails and focus on learning to use technology in a responsible manner while also using technology to support and enhance learning. Students in 4th grade also learn to keep a daily agenda to help manage their time and their work. Unlike the “specials” schedule in the PS, 4th grade has two different rotation periods in the school day. Students are exposed to Spanish, French, Drama, Library, Technology and Religious Education while continuing to experience Art, Music, and P.E.

UPPER SCHOOL

A note from Mr. Parks...
While spring is in the air, and senioritis hits more than just the seniors, we cannot stress enough the importance of consistent and regular attendance. Please don’t call your child out if they are worried about a test. Please don’t call your child out if they’re “done for the day.” Our schedule is such that students need to be actively engaged in the learning environment. Missing school has a significant impact on the student experience and also impacts the classroom environment and teacher load.

Reminders about US absences
Attendance Policy
Parents must inform Mrs. Alford, US Attendance Coordinator, by 8 a.m. at USattendance@hollandhall.org or 539-476-8287 if a student will be absent from school or tardy to school.
Planned Absences
Students who have a planned school-related absence OR personal absence need to complete an absence form. This requires them to meet with each teacher to discuss any work they may miss while they are out. The form should be completed, signed by a parent, and then turned in to Mrs. Alford prior to the scheduled absence. These forms can be found in the US Business Office by Mrs. Alford’s desk.
Arriving Late/Leaving Early
Parents must notify Mrs. Alford via email or phone call if their student(s) will arrive late to or leave early from campus. Students should communicate directly with teachers to discuss any work they missed due to their late arrival or early departure.
