The Lunar New Year Celebration has quickly become one of the most joyful and meaningful events in our Chinese program at Holland Hall.

This year, we proudly hosted a vibrant showcase featuring 18 different performances, including traditional dances, songs, instruments, fashion show and cultural presentations. The energy and enthusiasm on stage were matched by an incredible turnout from families and the school community, making the event a true celebration of learning and culture.
At its heart, this event is about giving students the opportunity to experience the Chinese language in a fun, creative, and authentic way. Preparing for the performances allows students to build confidence, work collaboratively, and connect more deeply with what they are learning in the classroom. It transforms language learning into something lively and memorable — something they can truly take ownership of.
Just as importantly, the celebration creates a space for families and the broader community to engage in cultural exploration. Through the performances, the audience is invited to experience traditions, stories, and artistic expressions that bring Chinese culture to life. It is a meaningful way to build cultural awareness and appreciation across our school.
Perhaps the most exciting outcome is the lasting impact on our students. Even after the event, many are already talking about next year and asking how they can be involved again. That excitement speaks to the sense of pride and joy they feel, and it motivates us to continue growing this event into a lasting school tradition — one that brings our community together through culture, creativity, and connection.
