Teddy Owens

Middle School Boys & Girls Golf Asst Coach
Varsity Boys Basketball HC

Teddy Owens brings major-college experience and pedigree as the Holland Hall head boys basketball coach. He’s also a gym teacher in the Primary School.

Teddy’s dad, Ted, is a college basketball legend who coached at Kansas and Oral Roberts. Teddy, 45, was born in Lawrence, Kansas, and graduated high school from Seminole Presbyterian School in Tampa, Fla.

He is now in his second stint at Holland Hall, having been a boys assistant for the Dutch from 2005-08. He’s also been a head coach at Carrollwood Day School in Tampa Bay and locally at Lincoln Christian. He’s also been an assistant at Metro Christian and Edison.

Teddy has been on major-college staffs at Oklahoma (under Lon Kruger), Oklahoma State (under Eddie Sutton) and Nebraska. His lone season at OSU in 2003-04, where he was a student manager, the Cowboys reached the Final Four.

Owens earned his bachelor’s degree in liberal studies from Oklahoma State and his master’s degree in human relations from Oklahoma in May 2013.

Teddy learned a love of cooking from his mother. Both of his kids attend Holland Hall.

“More than anything, I want (players) to become leaders. I want them to become great men, not defined by occupation, but who they are as people. That’s what I get the most joy out of.”

Brian Underwood

Varsity Boys Football OL Coach
Varsity Boys Golf HC

Brian Underwood is the head boys golf coach and is a physical education teacher at Holland Hall. A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, who grew up playing hockey, Underwood came to the United States in 1990 to play football at the University of Tulsa where he graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Health/Physical Education with a minor in Biology. He briefly played professional football for the Ottawa Roughriders in the Canadian Football League. Also the offensive line coach for the Dutch football team, Underwood has been at Holland Hall for close to 30 years.

I coach because I love football and golf and want to continue to stay connected to these sports because being around kids is important to me. Being able to navigate the ups and downs of playing sports, being a part of a team and overcoming adversity are some of the most important life lessons that can positively impact today’s youth.”
